Tea in the United States covers everything from a traditional Chinese or Japanese tea house to a Southern sweet-tea counter, and the fastest-growing segment is bubble tea: Taiwanese-style milk teas and fruit teas with tapioca pearls, sold by chains and independents alike with adjustable sugar and ice levels. Tea rooms serving afternoon tea with scones and sandwiches usually require a reservation, while boba shops, juice bars and smoothie shops are walk-in and quick. Kava and kombucha bars are a newer category, and loose-leaf tea stores sell blends, teaware and gifts, often with a tasting counter. Prices for a drink run similar to coffee-shop prices, with premium teas and cold-pressed juices at the high end.

Santa Ana is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Santa Ana is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

First time here and definitely the last. Walking in, there was a strange, unpleasant smell. The staff werenβt busy at allβjust standing around chatting. To top it off, the boba tea was super bland and watery. Definitely not coming back.

Just found this boba place. A hidden gem if you like boba teas. I ordered the classic- black milk tea with boba. The boba is good and not chewy. Less sugar and ice can be ordered. One star off for slightly too milky- preferable a more balanced/tea flavor.

I was waiting to write a review for the boba until I tried it a couple of times, and Iβm glad I did. I tried the brown sugar milk tea with boba and lychee jelly, and it had great balance, texture, and flavor. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying. That said, they could probably work on expanding the menu to include more drink options. Overall, itβs a solid spot for boba, and Iβd definitely recommend it if youβre in the mood for a well-made milk tea.

Bottom Line Up Front: If you want authentic Taiwanese boba, Wushiland will surely satisfy you β just don't expect artisan-level brewing from this large international franchise. The Menu: Wushiland sells brewed tea, milk tea, macchiato, fresh milk tea, and special flavored tea. Coming from Taiwan, where boba tea was invented, this shop delivers authentic boba. That also means you're getting Asian flavors and sweetness. Don't expect super-sugary frappuccino-style dessert drinks that you might find at Starbucks or Jamba Juice. However, the Starbucks comparison is apt, as Wushiland is a large chain with prepackaged ingredients. Fortunately, you can customize your drink to a degree. For example, there are "toppings" like coconut jelly and boba (tapioca balls) that add sweetness in the form of chewy solids. [I've always found "toppings" to be a funny term for boba add-ons because they generally sink to the bottom of the drink and don't stay on top. They're more like "bottomings" β hahaha!] The toppings are optional, and Wushiland allows you to select one of 5 sweetness levels: 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. The Drink: I've been to different Wushilands but haven't gone through the whole
